The Filial and Luminous Emperor Ching

The “Filial and Luminous Emperor” of the title was the emperor Ching, the sixth emperor of the Han Dynasty who ruled 154–141 BCE. He worked to centralize power in the hands of the imperial government, defeated rebelling subordinate rulers of regions within China in the 154 BCE Rebellion of the Seven States, and limited the power of regional rulers to appoint ministers in their territories. His rule was generally lenient, with lower taxes (although he did institute new ones) and lessening of the length of criminal sentences.
