The Kamose Texts

Possibly written by "Neshi," who names himself as the "overseer of the treasury," these inscriptions on two different stone blocks were made during the reign of Kamose, the last pharaoh of the 17th Dynasty who ruled from Thebes around 1555–1550 BCE, the end of the Second Intermediate Period of ancient Egypt. These inscriptions celebrate Kamose's military campaigns into both Lower and Upper Egypt. "The Carnarvon Tablet," wooden writing boards with a copy of part of the inscription in hieratic script, was discovered in 1908, while two fragments of the original stone inscriptions were discovered in 1932 and 1935.
